Old Castle Stuttgart – History in the Heart of the City
The Old Castle is one of Stuttgart’s most distinctive landmarks and is located directly on Schlossplatz. Originally built as a moated castle in the 10th century, it was expanded over the centuries to become the residence of the Dukes and Kings of Württemberg. Today, this impressive Renaissance building houses the Württemberg State Museum.
Across more than 14,000 m² of exhibition space, the museum invites you on a journey through the cultural history of the region: from the Stone Age, Romans, and Celts to art and treasure chambers with precious watches, jewelry, and magnificent pieces from courtly times. The collection of world-famous “Celtic Princely Tombs” is particularly impressive.
The Old Castle is not only a place for history enthusiasts but also an atmospheric backdrop for after-work culture, city strolls, or an inspiring weekend visit.
