The world's first television tower is in Stuttgart. For 60 years, the 217-meter-high tower has stood up to wind and weather. When construction began, not everyone in Stuttgart believed that the first tower built with a reinforced concrete structure would actually hold up. After 20 months of construction, the Stuttgarter Fernsehturm was inaugurated on February 5, 1956. It became a prototype that was replicated and further developed around the world—from Frankfurt and Dortmund to Johannesburg and Wuhan in China.
